‘I describe these works as being collages, but they are more like marquetry in that they are constructed from different elements being inlaid rather than stuck on.  Each piece is cut to accommodate the next – this makes for a flush surface which is then sized and drawn and painted over.  The inlaid elements include previous drawings or pages from a sketchbook, Giclée prints of the sculptures I make, used and discarded sheets from a disposable palette and coloured card, paper, linen and canvas. I’m intrigued by the spatial qualities this process brings to the work as it helps create the overall sense of otherworldliness and dreamlike peculiarity that I’m looking for.’
